RatsI never understood why my rats would bite me.Rats
I fed them lettuce, carrots, even meat.
I refilled their water every time they’d knock it over.
I cleaned their cage daily
Putting up with the stench of their urine.
Yet whenever I stuck my hand in the cage,
They’d scurry to the other side.
Whenever I tried to pick one up,
He’d bite me.
Bittersweet the feeling was, though,
For at least they noticed me,
Unlike at school waiting for
The late bell, unseen.
